Digital X-Rays & Imaging
Digital Dental X-Rays in League City, TX
Dental X-Rays & Intraoral Imaging
See What’s Happening Below the Surface
X-rays allow us to see — and seeing is knowing. At Autumn Family Dentistry, we never guess when it comes to your oral health. Without dental x-rays, many issues below the surface would go undetected. That’s why x-rays are an essential part of every comprehensive dental exam and are considered the standard of care in modern dentistry.
We also use low-profile intraoral cameras to show you exactly what we see inside your mouth. This technology helps you understand your dental health and see issues in real time, making your care more transparent and engaging.
Why Dental X-Rays Are Important
Detect Problems Early Before They Become Serious
Many dental conditions cannot be detected with the naked eye alone. X-rays help your dentist diagnose problems early, before they cause pain or become more expensive to treat.
Dental x-rays can reveal:
- Cavities between the teeth
- Bone loss and bone levels
- Infections or abscesses in the bone
- Impacted wisdom teeth
- Lesions or tumors (benign or malignant)
- Hidden decay under old fillings or crowns
- Tartar buildup below the gums
- Anatomical abnormalities
Simply put: x-rays let us see what’s really going on beneath the surface. Paired with intraoral camera imaging, you can actually see the problem areas for yourself, helping you make informed decisions about your care.
Benefits of Digital X-Rays
Safer, Faster, and More Comfortable Imaging

Advantages include:
Up to 90% less radiation exposure
Instant image processing for quicker visits
Comfortable digital sensors instead of sharp films
Eco-friendly (no chemicals or waste)
Visual patient education — combined with intraoral cameras, we can display what we see in real time
We use the latest digital systems for safe, accurate, and comfortable imaging for both adults and children.

FAQs About Dental X-Rays
Answers to Common Questions About Safety and Imaging
Are dental x-rays safe?
Yes. Modern digital dental x-rays use extremely low levels of radiation, far less even than what you’re exposed to naturally every day in your environment. Our digital sensors and shielding further minimize exposure for both adults and children.
Are dental x-rays like medical x-rays?
No. Dental x-rays are highly targeted, localized, and extremely low-dose compared to medical x-rays.
How often do I need dental x-rays?
Most patients need bitewing x-rays every 6–12 months and a full-mouth or panoramic x-ray every 5 years. Frequency may vary depending on oral health, risk factors, and past dental history.
What if I’m pregnant?
Routine dental x-rays are safe during a normal pregnancy when proper precautions are taken. If you prefer, we can postpone until after delivery unless urgent concerns arise.
Do children need dental x-rays?
Yes. Children are actively growing and developing and need more regular monitoring of tooth eruption, jaw growth, cavities, and bite development. We generally start taking x-rays around age 3-4, depending on patient maturity.
Can I refuse dental x-rays?
You may decline x-rays, but refusing limits our ability to provide complete care. One refusal per year is allowed; repeated refusal may prevent us from properly caring for you as an active patient.
Do I need to wear a lead apron?
Lead aprons are no longer recommended for routine digital x-rays due to the potential for radiation scatter. However, for patients’ comfort, we provide them with a thyroid collar if requested.
What if I have x-rays from another dentist?
We can review them. If they’re diagnostic and recent, we’ll use them; most likely, updated x-rays may be needed for complete evaluation and are included at no additional cost with our examination fees.
